Certification project: ETL certification in the United States

1、 US ETL certification concept

The US ETL certification is the certification required for exporting products to the United States and Canada. The ETL logo indicates that the product has passed accreditation testing by the US NRTL and Canadian SCC. The ETL logo is recognized as having the same legal effect as the UL or CSA logo and complies with relevant safety standards. Having the ETL listing mark on a product means that it has met the low requirements of product safety standards. In addition, the ETL logo indicates that the production site meets a certain range of standard requirements and ensures continuous consistency through regular factory audits.

（2） Basic testing methods for US ETL certification

1. Leakage current test: The sample used for leakage current test has not undergone any other tests before conducting the test.

2. Normal heating: Test method: Thermocouple; The standard requires the use of 24-30AWG hot spot coupling (currently 30AWG is used in the laboratory)

3. Leakage current test after humidity: General test conditions: T=32+-2 degrees, RH=88+-2%. Duration: 48 hours after completion, take out for leakage current test, test conditions T=20-30 degrees, RH=93+-3%

4. Voltage withstand test: For products without double insulation and grounding, the requirement is 1000v/1 minute (the target voltage ramp up time of the equipment is set to 5 seconds, the cutoff current is set to 8.3mA, and then maintained at the target voltage for 1 minute).

（3）Inspection of ETL certified factories in the United States

ETL needs to conduct factory inspections before issuing the certificate, and will also conduct irregular follow-up factory inspections every quarter. In addition to the factory inspection fee, the certificate photography fee needs to be paid quarterly.

If necessary, inspectors can witness the retesting of the product or conduct laboratory testing after sampling.

To obtain a license, a statutory contract (service agreement) must be signed with ETL, which clearly defines the manufacturer's responsibilities and the conditions for continuous ETL listing and use of the ETL logo.

（4） Scope of US ETL product certification

Mainly including: electronic appliances, machinery or mechanical products.

Any electronic, electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical product that bears the ETL mark indicates that the product has met the generally recognized low requirements of product safety standards in the United States and Canada. It has been tested and meets relevant product safety standards, and it also represents that the production factory agrees to undergo strict regular inspections to ensure consistency in product quality, which can be sold in the markets of the United States and Canada.

（5） US ETL certification application process

1. Fill out the application form;

2. Provide samples (including instruction manual, circuit schematic, circuit block diagram, key component certificates, inductance specifications, transformer specifications, labels, BOM table);

3. Witness testing;

4. After the witness test is completed and there are no issues, Anpu will inspect the factory within about a week;

5. Factory inspection is passed and certification is issued.

（6） Application materials need to be submitted for the US ETL certification process

At present, there are two ways to obtain the US ETL certificate. One is to pass the CB test report or apply directly. The required documents are as follows:;

1. Application form;

2. Copy of CB test certificate (not required for direct application);

3. Copy of CB test report (not required for direct application);

4. Samples;

5. Other relevant test results and product data, such as product manuals, photos, component lists, etc.

(If the CB report is transferred, a difference test needs to be conducted);
