Ul is the abbreviation for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in the United States. The UL Safety Testing Institute is the most authoritative organization in the United States and also one of the largest civilian organizations in the world engaged in safety testing and certification. It is an independent, for-profit professional organization that conducts experiments for public safety. It adopts scientific testing methods to study and determine whether various materials, devices, products, equipment, buildings, etc. pose a threat to life and property, and to what extent; Determine, write, and distribute corresponding standards and materials that help reduce and prevent losses to life and property, while conducting factual research services. UL certification is a non mandatory certification in the United States, mainly for testing and certification of product safety performance, and its certification scope does not include the EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) characteristics of the product.

(1) Why do companies need to obtain UL certification?

1. The entire US market places great emphasis on product safety; When consumers and purchasing units choose products, they will choose products with UL certification marks.

2. UL has a history of over 100 years, and its safety image is deeply rooted in consumers and governments. If you do not directly sell products to consumers, intermediaries will also require products to have UL certification marks to make them popular.

3. American consumers and purchasing units have more information about a company's products.

4. More than 40000 federal, state, county, and municipal governments in the United States recognize the UL certification mark.

(2) UL certified UL854 certified indoor cable usage range:

1.1 These requirements cover power cables of the USE, USE-2 (underground), and SE (above ground) types for installation in compliance with NEC Article 338 and other applicable parts. These cables are used for incoming lines and other (NEC) 1 4-1 The purpose described in section 8. In multi-core cables, except for submersible pump cables, and without grounding core wires, it is suitable for conductors with an uninsulated line. It is also suitable for submersible pump cables, with a grounding wire and an insulated grounding wire for USE-type and USE-2 cables. These cables have a rated voltage of 600 V for each insulated core wire. In addition to using XL-HDPE insulation for single core USE cables, USE cables also have thermosetting insulation. SE type cables have thermosetting or thermoplastic insulation.

1. 2 The cable insulation is a sturdy, extruded dielectric material used in damp, 75 ℃ (167 ° F) and lower temperature environments. The type of cable core is marked with "HH", indicating that insulation is used in dry places at temperatures up to 90 ° C (194 ° F), as well as in damp places at temperatures of 75 ° C (167 ° F) and lower. The cable core type identification includes "-2", indicating that the insulation is used in damp or dry places, with temperatures up to 90 ° C (194 ° F).

1. 3 Any metal conductor of a cable, except for copper, should be marked to identify the type of metal, such as aluminum or copper clad aluminum. Aluminum single core (see 1 4) Cable, USE-2 or USE-2 type, except for solid 12, 10, or 8 AWG conductors, EC-1350 grade aluminum alloy, or registered AA-8000 series electrical conductor grade aluminum alloy. For all other cables, aluminum conductors refer only to registered AA-8000 electrical conductor grade alloys.

1. 4 Single core USE-type cables refer to single core, sheathed, or unsheathed multi-core cables, as well as submersible pump cables, which have no letter identification for the type of cable core on a single core wire, or on labels, reels, or cardboard boxes. "USE" is the only designated cable model associated with it. See 40 4.

1. 5 SE type cables do not use letters to indicate the type of wire, or use separate letters ("XHHW," "RHW," "RHH," or "RHW," without "cdrs," etc.) to indicate the type of wire. The insulation of the wire does not comply with UL44 thermosetting insulated wire and cable horizontal combustion test. SE type cable markers are used for cable tray laying, meeting the standard of 70, 000 BTU/h (20 The 5 kW vertical tray combustion test is described in Section 4-11, the vertical paper box fire propagation and smoke release test, and the UL1685 or FT4/IEEE1202 flame test is described in Section 12-19, which is a standard for electrical and fiber optic cables. Smoke measurement is not applicable. See 31 1.

1. 6 The outer surface of each single core wire and multi-core wire cable should be marked with a sun resistant cursor for identification, and the outer surface of SE type cables should be marked for use on cable trays, resistant to sunlight, and comply with a 720 hour sun resistance test. The insulation of each insulated wire under the outer sheath of multi-core cables should meet the 300 hour sunlight resistance test. All other cables do not have the printed label "sun resistant", but they meet the 300 hour sun resistant standard requirements or are equivalent (see 30 4) Sunlight test (except for submersible pump cables, the insulation of each type of insulated wire and those with outer sheath meet the requirements of this standard).

1. 7 The maximum size of single conductor cables for USE-type and USE-2 type cables is 2000 kcmil, either flat or circular multi-core wires, with a maximum size of 4/0 AWG for copper conductors. For sheathed multi-core wires, aluminum or copper-clad aluminum conductors, the maximum conductor size is up to 300 kcmil, and for unsheathed multi-core wires, the conductor size is up to 2000 kcmil. The USE and USE-2 cables did not meet the requirements of the combustion test. Multi conductor USE-type and USE-2 type cables with sheaths, with 1-5 insulated wires of the same size, with or without uninsulated grounding wires. In some cases, the size of the grounding wire in the 2007-10-5 UL854 incoming cable body 3 is smaller than the size of the insulated wire conductor. It is suitable for including an insulated equipment grounding conductor, which in some cases is smaller than the size of the line conductor and is an uninsulated conductor. Unsheathed multi conductor USE-type and USE-2 type cables, with two or more (unrestricted) conductors of the same size, with or without grounding conductors, bare grounding conductors (in circular or flat cables) or insulated grounding conductors (in circular cables), and in some cases, the grounding wire size is smaller than other conductors. Unsheathed multi conductor USE-2 and USE-2 cables, with bare conductors, must be labeled to restrict direct burial of the cable (during and after installation of pipelines and electrodes, unsheathed protection for exposed conductors). Single conductor USE-type and USE-2 type cables, copper cables with dimensions not exceeding 4/0 AWG, aluminum or copper-clad aluminum cables with dimensions not exceeding 300 kcmil, multi-core sheathed and unsheathed USE-type and USE-2 type cables, without uninsulated or bare conductors, USE-type or USE-2 type are used as underground UF type cables, but without the "UF" lettering identification. All single conductor USE-2 and USE-2 cables, as well as multi conductor USE-2 and USE-2 cables, can be directly buried underground and used as incoming cables through pipelines. They meet standard requirements and are connected to terminals on poles. Each wire with a sheath is exposed to weather conditions and is not physically damaged:

a) Multi conductor USE-2 and USE-2 cables with sheaths may or may not have uninsulated conductors.

b) Unsheathed multi conductor USE-type and USE-2 type cables without bare conductors.

1. 8 Submarine pump cables (four varieties, in 19 1) is a single conductor USE-type cable twisted together and can be printed with "pump cable" on each single core wire, which meets the requirements. After cable formation, the cable is not tested for sunlight resistance, but each of its wires is tested to meet the requirements of submersible pump cables that are flat or round, multi wire cable sizes, copper conductors up to 4/0 AWG, aluminum or copper-clad aluminum up to 300kcmil, for all insulated wires. A single wire is suitable as a grounding conductor, and in some cases, its size may be smaller than that of a line wire. The conductor size of all circuits is the same. This cable has a label indicating that it is used for wiring inside the casing and for deep well submersible water pumps. Each wire of an unsheathed cable is marked as a USE type cable on its surface during cable assembly. The identification of each wire of any water pump cable assembly wire is in compliance with standard requirements. The surface of unsheathed cables can be marked with "submersible pump cable". Unsheathed cables twisted into cables, without grounding conductors, can be used as USE-type cables and are also suitable for underground USE-type cables, but the cables are not marked as "UF". All other submersible pump cables twisted into cables can only be used as submersible pump cables.

1. 9 SE type cables are flat or circular multi conductor cables, with copper sizes up to 4/0 AWG and aluminum or copper clad aluminum sizes up to 300 kcmil, with non-metallic outer sheaths. All insulated wires have the same size. This cable meets the requirements of the cable combustion test standard.

1. 10 These requirements do not include metal armored cables (MC type) or medium voltage cables (MV type). MC type cables (600 V and 2 kV) metal armored cables are included in standard UL1569. MV cables (5, 8, 15, 28, 35 kV) medium voltage power cables, included in standard UL1072
